Playing with Chad Smith (RHCP)

I have been digitising old performances and I came across this little jem. Jon (On drums) and I (Vocals) were lucky enough to get this opportunity and its defo a top 10 moment.

It's always been a struggle for me to learn lyrics and this was no exception but of course he was lovely and amazing with the students we were teaching. I hope to share some more with you as I start the long process of going through many many tapes.

I love teaching as much as performing if I am honest. The gigs and shows that I was a part of certainly helped shape me, which was one of the reasons I started the music school. As tutors we have so much knowledge and passion to share and I know Music and or the Arts as a whole is so important.

Backbeat Collective Music is made up of incredibly passionate, experienced and knowledgable tutors from the world of contemporary music education and understand first hand the changing times we face within the industry. We believe here at Backbeat Collective that it's not just about learning music – it's about building a community where every musician can flourish. We recognise that musicians have diverse aspirations. So whether you're a seasoned band member aiming to elevate your performance or a casual player seeking the joy of playing for fun, or a complete beginner. Backbeat Collective Music is now your destination.

From one of our parents:

"Backbeat Music School has given my children a love of music and performance. Both of our children were learning to play instruments but it was becoming a bit of a chore until they started at Backbeat. Aly, Jon, Rob and the other teachers are amazing and share their love of music and performing.

These two things make the perfect combination for mentors and tutors. Not only have they improved my kids musical skills they have built up their confidence.

The smile on their faces when they are actually playing a live gig is what makes this school stand out. They offer support throughout the whole journey giving them the skills to succeed in a friendly and supportive way. They create an amazing learning atmosphere that is so impressive. I would recommend anyone with kids that want to learn music to start here, they will learn so much more!" Stu Morrison

What Our Students & Others Say

Pete Friesen

The Almighty, Alice Cooper

I've been playing with Jon for over 20 years now and he is one of the most naturally talented drummers I have ever worked with. His subtly of touch and musical instincts are fantastic, and his innate groove makes him a joy to play with. You know you're in safe hands when he is behind the kit.
